were made by Bishop Raimondi of facts which, if true, were inconsistent with the guilt of the Accused. The allegations having been brought to the knowledge of H.M. Govt, the Foreign Office was directed, if the Magistrate could not re-open the case, to take evidence from the wife herself & the Executioner; that this was done, a full Enquiring Magistrate was deputed with the result that the proof of guilt was found to be out of the question. To satisfy the minds of the Members of the Council; and on these circumstances being reported to H.M. Govt, they have dissented from the decision to hang the man. (Marquis Tseng is satisfied with their explanation)
